Pothole Patrol in Blackburn

Potholes are a nightmare. And it’s time something was done about them.

So today s1blackburn begins a new campaign - Pothole Patrol!

The big freeze has caused massive damage to our roads. Scotland’s road network is deteriorating rapidly and more than one-third – or 12,800 miles – of all routes are now in an unacceptable condition. Audit Scotland today warned our roads will cost £2.25 billion to fix.

In West Lothian Council area alone, 5 percent (608 miles) of our roads are cracked, pitted and broken.

So this is your chance to get something done. Where are the worst potholes around here? Which ones have burst your tyre, wrecked your suspension or even worse, caused you to have an accident? Or which ones just look like an accident waiting to happen?

Here you can warn your neighbours about the danger potholes present, and maybe save them a hefty repair bill. Point out your least favourite potholes by posting a comment below. Say where the pothole is, and roughly how big it is. If you can, upload a photo (a snap taken on a mobile phone is perfect).

Then when we have compiled a list, Pothole Patrol will ask the Council what they are planning on doing about these dangers lurking in our roads.

Try to upload your comments and snaps to s1blackburn by Friday 11th March. That’s when we are going to go to the Council with the list. We’ll report their response as soon as we can.

I would like to report the potholes on Ladeside Road, Blackburn.

They are on the carriageway from No 32 to the bottom of the road heading towards Riddochhill Road.

Well today was our deadline for going to the Council. So we reported the potholes on Ladeside Road.

They got back to us really quickly and its good news!

A West Lothian Council spokesperson said:

“We have already identified Ladeside Road, Blackburn as part of our continued efforts to identify and repair potholes.

“Depending on the weather, we plan on carrying out temporary repairs on the road next week. Permanent repairs will be scheduled for later in the year, once the weather improves.

“We would encourage the public to be vigilant and help assist us by reporting any potholes they see. We will continue to monitor and repair potholes, as soon as we can.

“Residents can report potholes by emailing: customer.service@westlothian.gov.uk and marking the email ‘potholes’ or by telephoning 01506 775000.  Please provide clear directions to the pothole.

But the repairs next week are only temporary ones- so let's keep an eye on this one!
