Blackburn businessman raises £750 for bear rescue appeal
Well done to local businessman, Ian Whatley, who has raised £750 for a West Calder Zoo bear rescue appeal!
Last year, we reported that Five Sisters Zoo had been backed by celebrities – such as Chantelle Houghton and Kate Ford – in its bid to raise £100,000 to rescue three former circus bears from Belgium.
Mr Whatley, who runs Blackburn-based Hardhill Travel, had been collecting donations since October 2011 through his three businesses.
For every gas cylinder bought, £1 was given to the bear cause; for every car serviced, £5 was donated; and for weekend passengers on his executive minibuses, £1 was given.
"Brian Curran, co-owner of Five Sisters Zoo, said: "We were thrilled that Ian had offered to support the bear appeal and amazed when we received three cheques, totalling £750.00 - what a lovely Christmas present that was for the fund!"
If you'd like to help save the bears, you can do so here.
